Behind the Wheel Driving Lessons & Practice
How do I schedule my driving lessons?
The easiest way to schedule your driving lessons is online through our Student Center using the Username and Password that was sent to you via email when you signed up. You can call the office during business hours and we’ll be happy to assist you.
How long are the driving lessons?
Driving Lessons are two (2) hours long. Our basic package consists of four (4) lessons which makes up the total of eight (8) hours required.
Where do I take my driving lessons?
All driving lessons begin and end at the Fresh Green Light facilities. By default, you’ll see the schedule for available drives at the location you’ve registered for. But you may take a driving lesson at any location. Please call the office if you’d like to schedule a driving lesson at a different facility.
Will you send us a reminder of our lesson time?
Our scheduling system automatically sends you an email reminder 48 hours in advance of the lesson time, which provides plenty of time to reschedule in case something comes up. You also have the option of receiving text message reminders as well if you chose that selection during registration.
What is your cancellation policy for driving lessons?
We have a strict 24 Hour Cancellation Policy: If you cancel a lesson with less than 24 hours notice, you will be charged a $50 cancellation fee regardless of the reason for the cancellation. We confirm the schedules of our outstanding Driving Coaches 24 hours in advance and we commit to paying them for the lessons on their schedule at that time.
How do I cancel a driving lesson?
If you must cancel a lesson, please do so by logging into the Student Center and cancelling the lesson online. Do not leave a voicemail or send an email as this will not cancel your lesson.
I’ve lost my permit, can I still do my driving lesson?
Nope. Students must have their permit physically with them during lessons and we are required by the DMV to make sure that every student has their learner’s permit physically with them for every behind-the-wheel driving lesson – photo copies or pictures on phones don’t cut it. If a student doesn’t have their permit for their lesson, a $ 50.00 cancellation fee will be applied.
Can I do two driving lessons in one day?
No. The DMV only allows a student to take one driving lesson a day. Students can attend classroom sessions and have a driving lesson on the same day. More importantly, we highly suggest that you space your driving lessons out over several weeks so that you are practicing what you’ve learned before moving on to the next lesson.
How far ahead do driving lessons book up?
During the school year, driving lessons usually book around 4 weeks in advance at Fresh Green Light, especially prime weekend times and school breaks. Summer is busiest time, so lessons can sometimes be booked out more than a month in advance. Please plan accordingly.
Please Note: Due to COVID, there is a longer wait than normal for driving lessons.

Do I use my own car for the test?
The DMV requires us to use a Fresh Green Light vehicle for the test.
Does my parent need to be with me for the test?
They do not need to be at the facility on your test date. In fact, we request that parents don’t come to the road test as it tends to make our students’ more nervous than they already are!
However, you and your parent will fill out and sign all of the necessary official DMV forms which must be filled out in blue or black ink a week prior to your Road Test date.
How long does the test take?
You should plan on being at Fresh Green Light for at least 3 hours the day of the test.
We can accommodate up to 18 students per test day, and advance sign up is required. We schedule two sessions on the day at the test: one at 8AM for ten (10) students and another at 10:00 AM. (Student test times are based on signup dates – first to sign up goes first and so on). The test itself takes about 20 minutes and is conducted on roads near our facility.
What Fresh Green Light locations offer the DMV Road Test?
We offer that DMV Road Test at all of our locations: Cos Cob, Darien, Fairfield, Westport and Wilton.
Can I change the date of my Road Test once it's booked?
If you want to change your Road Test date, you must change it more than 3 weeks prior to the scheduled date by calling the office.
If you change your date within three weeks of your scheduled date, you will not get a refund and will need to purchase a new Road Test.
When do I get my driver's license?
You will receive a temporary Driver’s License when you pass your Road Test. Your physical Driver’s License will be sent to you in the mail by the DMV.
